The Kansas City Public School Retirement System (KCPSRS) celebrates its 75th year in 2019. In tribute to this achievement, we have created a timeline to reflect on the historical events that lead to the creation of KCPSRS and the many ways the System has changed over the years. While the Retirement System was officially established in 1944, the fight for a dignified and secure retirement began decades before then. Our timeline highlights the early efforts to create a pension plan for teachers and other school and library staff, the creation of the System and its governing Board, and the work throughout the years to keep the System updated, solid, and relevant through a constantly changing educational environment.
